How Much Water Should You Drink Daily?

The majority of us do not drink enough water daily.  Water is extremely important and makes up 2/3 of our body weight. Water carries nutrients and waste through our bodies, helps support brain function, regulates temperature, and even helps our joints.

There are many different opinions on how much water you should be drinking each day, but the easy rule to remember is eight 8-ounce glasses a day for the average normal healthy person. This amount can vary depending on several factors, so let’s break it down!

Physical Activity

Exercise plays a huge role in your hydration intake needs. If you are producing sweat, you need to replenish the fluids that you’re losing. It’s important to drink water before, during, and after a workout. If you are in high intensity workouts or extremely long running, it’s important to also replenish electrolytes.

Weather

If it’s extremely humid or hot outside, you need more hydration than someone in opposite climates.

Health

If you become sick, you need extra fluids to replace what you lose from a high fever or lack of nutrition. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it’s a good idea to go ahead and increase fluid intake daily!

Keep in mind, if you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, you are consuming water that way too. Staying hydrated isn’t just about drinking glasses of water all day long. Add flavor to your water with fruit like lemon or lime, or with doterra oils to get a lemon, grapefruit or peppermint flavor. Doing so can give it an extra boost!
