What Does Wellness Mean to You?

At ithriveX, we love it when August rolls around because it has been designated as National Wellness Month. When we quote our mantra “Don’t just survive…thrive!”, we don’t just mean physically. Our emotional or mental wellness is just as important as our physical wellness. There are many ways to incorporate wellness into each day and focus on self-care for your body, mind, soul, and space. Check out some of our recommendations to bring you to happy and healthy living.

BODY: In all honesty, every month should be the month you focus on body wellness. This could mean trying a new healthy recipe, trying a new fitness activity, adding a morning stretch to your daily routine, or even just getting to bed an hour earlier. One of the most important things we can do for our body is drink more water. Water detoxifies, hydrates our skin, aids in our digestion, help us lose weight, and boosts our energy. Water also delivers important nutrients to our cells (especially muscle cells), and also lubricates our joints. You can add lemon, lime, even cucumber if you want some flavor, or try adding frozen fruits instead of ice cubes for something refreshing.

MIND: There are many articles out there with suggestions on how to keep your mind healthy. (Just ask Google.) No matter what age you are, people with strong minds live a healthier and more fulfilling life. Too often we let our minds get jumbled by work and stress. Now would be a great time to “free your mind”. It’s all part of the wellness experience. Have you considered prayer or meditation? Have you ever started a journal? Learning and experiencing new things can also be a great way to challenge your brain. Be curious about the things around you. Let your mind wander into places of creativity. You might just amaze yourself in the process.

SOUL: Gratefulness, Mindfulness and Manifesting are all popular ways to enrich our souls. While a healthy body gives us a divine place for our soul to rest, we need to put in the work too. Focus today on things you are truly grateful for. Take time to do some deep breathing exercises. Reconnect with the earth by walking barefoot on the grass or the sand. Learn to add daily positive affirmations to your thought process. Ask for the things you want for your life, and in your life. Be at peace with your life journey.

SPACE: They say that the physical space in which you dwell has a profound impact on your emotional wellness. Clutter causes stress. A bright room can boost your mood and decrease anxiety and depression. The first week of August is “Simplify Your Life Week”. This week (or any week actually) would be a great time to pack up belongings you no longer need, want, or use. This could be clothing, books, shoes…imagine the possibilities? You’ll really feel better if you go ahead and donate those belongings as well. “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” Once you declutter, add small, fresh ways to engage your senses. Bring the outdoors in by adding a plant or a bouquet of flowers. Light a scented candle. Create an inspiring playlist to your music source. Removing and replacing extraneous things in your space will lead to positive synergy in your overall wellness experience.
