Health Benefits of Arnica Oil

What is Arnica?

Arnica oil is a homeopathic and alternative form of treatment for pain relief and is great to keep on hand if you are an athlete or find yourself getting frequent bruises or injuries. Arnica oil is made from a flowering plant called arnica, which belongs to the daisy family.

The plant is native to Europe but also grows in Siberia and certain climates in the U.S. There are many different species, but the most famous is Arnica Montana, also known as mountain tobacco due to similarly shaped leaves.

How to Use Arnica?

Arnica is offered in a variety of ways, including tea, a tincture, a balm, oral pills, injections, and an oil. The most common form used is Arnica oil and it’s powerful for reducing inflammation, relieving pain and arthritis, and relief from bruises, aches, sprains and stiffness.

Arnica oil contains helanalin and can be used topically to reduce inflammation in the skin with conditions like eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, and acne. There are monounsaturated fats in this oil that helps soothe inflamed skin and antioxidants, which can help with wrinkles and blemishes on the skin. Arnica oil can also help with hair regrowth due to age-related thinning or just genetic hair loss.

How Does Arnica Work?

Arnica oil can stimulate white blood cell production, which helps reduce inflammation in joints and muscles, which can alleviate symptoms of arthritis. It can be a great remedy for carpal tunnel and improve function in people with osteoarthritis in the hands or knees. Studies show that patients have found arnica to be as effective as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

Arnica Benefits

Applying arnica oil to injuries like bruises and sprains quickly stimulates circulation to the area and creates oxygen needed to produce new cells and heal broken blood vessels. It’s been helpful in treating postpartum bleeding or post-surgical healing and has been known to help resolve internal bleeding issues.

Arnica contains anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties and has been used as a homeopathic remedy for toothaches, sore throats, gum disease, and other oral health problems. It’s an ingredient in many kinds of toothpaste!

Where to Buy Arnica Oil?

Arnica oil can be found at any health store or online! Make sure you purchase one that has a low number of added ingredients – the purer the better – although additives like Vitamin E, almond oil, or olive oil are sometimes included to keep it preserved better and longer. Stay away from any added “fragrances” – these are not normal or natural and definitely not needed!
