Supporting the Amputee Community
Supporting the Amputee Community
“A proper community, we should remember also, is a commonwealth: a place, a resource, an economy. It answers the needs, practical as well as social and spiritual, of its members – among them the need to need one another.” – Wendell Berry
Central in all civilizations and cultures is the concept of community. As humans, we all have an underlying longing to belong and to know we aren’t alone. We all want connection, understanding, people to relate to and to draw inspiration and encouragement from, and to just do life with.
Community can be established by any means really – whether it is a shared geographical location like a neighborhood, shared common interests like running or a favorite band, shared values like religion or shared experiences like motherhood or attending the same university.
We all want to find common ground, and to connect with others. And the Limb Loss Community is no different.
That’s where the Amputee Coalition comes in. The Amputee Coalition answers a calling and a need to serve the almost 2 million Americans who have experienced an amputation or were born without a limb, and the almost 28 million more who are at serious risk for future amputation.
The Amputee Coalition is the nation’s leading organization on limb loss, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for amputees and their families, improving patient care, preventing limb loss and ensuring amputees have a voice in matters affecting their ability to live full, thriving lives.
As a company committed to providing natural pain-relief solutions, amputees are some of our most loyal customers, and we love seeing (and most importantly, supporting) an organization committed to giving back and enriching the lives of those living with limb loss.
This week the Amputee Coalition is putting on the 2018 National Conference in Tucson, Arizona. If you are attending, here is the event program to look forward to. If you’d like to contribute to this amazing organization, find out how here. Your money will go towards building and encouraging a vast community. Just check out the conference’s impact from attendees of years past:
“Meeting with other amputees at the conference is the highlight of my year. It jumpstarts personal change and development every time and I can’t wait for next year!”
“This was my 6th conference. I always leave conference rejuvenated in knowing I can live my life well with limb loss. The friends I have met over the years have helped me become a thriving amputee!”
“For the first time in my life, I didn’t feel like the odd man out.”
“It was life changing! Can’t wait till next year…no one looks down on you and everyone knows what it’s like to be an amputee.”
“The power of community to create health is far greater than any physician, clinic or hospital.” – Mark Hyman
The Amputee community truly is one-of-a-kind, and we at ithriveX are proud to sponsor a conference that fosters such an inspiring and encouraging atmosphere for this community (and its members) to thrive.
