Mentors Can Help You Achieve Your Goals
Mentors Can Help You Achieve Your Goals
“Nobody makes it alone. Nobody has made it alone. And we are all mentors to people, even when we don’t know it.” – Oprah Winfrey
Whether you are starting up a business, seeking personal growth, looking for inspiration or education, finding a mentor can help tremendously. Mentors can be coaches who provide support and skills to athletes, or mentors can be practitioners or apprentices who help you seek wisdom and inspiration. A good mentor is committed to helping their mentees find success, empowering the mentee to develop their own goals, beliefs, and strengths.
Here’s a few qualities to look for when choosing your mentor.
- Excellent communication skills
- Compassion, kindness, gratitude
- Willing to share knowledge and expertise
- Positive role model
- Willing to provide constructive feedback
- Respected by others in the community or your field
- Sets their own goals, both personally and professionally
These qualities may seem easy to find in a person, or maybe it seems too good to be true to find someone that possesses each of these qualities above. Perhaps you thought of someone as you read each quality; write those names down. Ask yourself if you’d be a good mentor to someone you know and take the leap and try it out yourself.
We choose whom to spend our time with. Make sure you choose good people who are committed to your overall success, who can help you achieve your goals. You want your mentor to feel invested in your success.
